Year 2 university project.
This is a concept project situated along the River Stour in Christchurch, Dorset. The idea is to reimagine the riverfront as a dynamic public space that blends architecture, nature, and community engagement in different segments of the area.
During the site visit, we were tasked with analysing and highlighting any issues found while exploring the site. The outcome led to four ideas that could theoretically overcome these issues.

(1) The Bridge – A relatively busy bridge with high sound pollution, cars were heard much further down the river. To overcome this, tall curved ‘sound barriers’ line the road. The pavement could also be widened to facilitate pedestrian movement, and adding planters would bring more nature back to this area.
(2) Riverside Platform – There was a lack of river access within the area, especially in the South/West. Idea two envisions a single platform that extends over the river, providing a space for leisure, observation, and interaction with the waterway.
(3) Boardwalk viewing platform – The only way to cross the river is via Tuckton Bridge, which could be inconvenient. Adding a footbridge would create scenic access for locals to cross over to the green space and the town centre more easily.
(4) Riverside Walkway – Trees and bushes hide much of the river, further preventing access. A path along the riverside encourages the locals and visitors to appreciate and explore the river or get away from the residential road.
